Books we’re reading

Mrs. Murray is reading The Penderwicks, by Jeanne Birdsall, which is one of this year’s WAW books. She says it reminds her of Little Women. I am reading The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame.

Cindy,

I am currently reading Grendel by John Gardner. I began by reading the beautifully-illustrated new juvenile book, Beowulf, A Hero’s Tale Retold by James Rumford. It unfolds the traditional version of Beowulf in an easy-to-understand language. Grendel is the same story told again in modern terms, this time through the eyes of the monster, Grendel. It is the same story, different! Interesting to read the same story through opposing eyes. I liked them both.
