I just finished the 2006 Newbery winner, Criss Cross by Lynn Rae Perkins, a coming of age book that was interesting. I am beginning the book Mentor: the kid and the CEO by Tom Pace, this book has gotten great reviews here and I am excited to read it. The book When the Black Girl Sings by Bill Wright, a new book from the Junior Library Guild, has gotten rave reviews from patrons. I have also just heard of an author and will be ordering some of his books today, “You can’t put them down, they are that good”. Lee Child is the author. Have a good week! Remember the library will be open during Spring Break, Monday through Thursday, closed for Good Friday and the Saturday before Easter.

I thought we would talk about the Kansas Library Card program of books online with it’s Overdrive program. This program lets you download audio books to your computer, ipod, or mp3 player. There is music, children’s books, and adult books available. Mrs. Murray has just finished The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas by John Boyne. She enjoyed it so much she will be purchasing it next year! Mrs. Dunn is listening to Desert Rain by Elizabeth Lowell, a cowboy romance. Come to the library and ask about a Kansas Library Card and the Overdrive program!

I just finished The Misadventures of Maude March or Trouble Rides a Fast Horse by Audrey Couloumbis. What a fun read and thank you to Tina to suggesting this book to me! I also just read Lowji Discovers America by Candace Fleming and it was a funny book that was very enjoyable. Both of these books are on the William Allen White list, I think I am down to Airball, Adam Canfield of the Slash, The Seven Wonders of Sassafrass Springs, The Penderwicks, Shanghai Messenger, and one other title that has left my mind. Remember to come see our Leap Year Feature and look on the new materials page I will be listing some new books and DVD’s.

Mrs. Dunn just read the new book by Nicholas Sparks, The Choice, she said she loved it! Mrs. Wasson has just begun reading The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsell. Mrs. Murray just read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, by Kate DiCamillio, a toy fantasy story about a china rabbit. It is similar to The Velveteen Rabbit except this time the rabbit must learn about love. I am reading one more of my must reads, The Heavenly Man, by Brother Yun, a story about being a Christian in China.

I have had a good week away and got through several books I had been wanting to read. First I read The Arrangement by Suzanne Forster, a paperback about a young woman with amnesia, then I read Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali a biography by a young woman who was born in Somali, then because of civil war grew up in Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. She was born a Muslim and this is her tale about her life through her leaving her family and becoming a citizen in Holland. Very, very interesting! I then read 7 Things You Better Have Nailed Down Before All Hell Breaks Loose by Robert D. Wolgemuth. I am now reading The Morcai Battlion by Diana Palmer a sci-fi that is really fun. Not as many books as I usually read on vacation but I got a few of those, “I have got to read this” out of my way.

Mrs. Wasson is reading a new book we have entitled Paint the Wind, a horse book that she is enjoying. Mrs. Murray is reading The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, this is a book I read in High School and at the time thought it was the best book ever written, we will be purchasing a copy. I finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy, a very dark, depressing novel the reviews talk about hope at the end of the story but it was not a big enough punch to counter balance the rest of the novel for me. I am reading The Missing Manatee by Cynthia DeFelice, this will be my 13th WAW (if I pass the test!!) and I will be on that bus!
